It has inhibitory properties against bacteria and fungi. 1,2-Dimethoxybenzene inhibits the growth of bacterial and fungal cells by binding to hydrogen atoms on the aromatic ring, which blocks the formation of intramolecular hydrogen bonds and prevents the molecule from adopting its most stable conformation.
