1-Benzyl-5-methylpyrrolidin-2-one is a catalyst that can be used in the reductive amination reaction. It is an ionic liquid that has been immobilized on a graphene oxide surface. This catalyst is also able to catalyze the cyclization of ammonia, amines, and alcohols. 1-Benzyl-5-methylpyrrolidin-2-one can be recycled for use in other catalytic reactions by first reducing it with ruthenium metal ions in an ionic liquid. The reactivity of this catalyst is dependent upon the nature of the metal ions present and their concentration.
