Propilparabeno, con la fórmula química C10H12O3 y número CAS 94-13-3, es un éster del ácido p-hidroxibenzoico y se utiliza comúnmente como conservante en cosméticos, productos farmacéuticos y alimentarios. Se caracteriza por sus propiedades antimicrobianas, que ayudan a inhibir el crecimiento de bacterias, moho y levaduras, prolongando así la vida útil de los productos. Propilparabeno es un líquido o sólido incoloro a amarillo pálido a temperatura ambiente, con un olor tenue. Es soluble en alcohol y propilenglicol, pero tiene una solubilidad limitada en agua. CAS:<p>N-Propyl-4-hydroxybenzoate (NPHB) is a preservative that belongs to the class of glycol ethers. It is used in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics as an anti-microbial agent. NPHB is effective against Gram positive bacteria and fungi, but not against Gram negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. NPHB is also used as an analytical reagent for the determination of p-hydroxybenzoic acid (pHBA) in drugs and other products. The matrix effect can be eliminated by using a mixture of methanol and water as the solvent.
