CAS:Producto controladoCarvedilol is a racemic mixture of the enantiomers (-) and (+) that are mirror images of each other. It is used in the treatment of congestive heart failure and ventricular dysfunction by acting as a vasodilator and reducing cardiac workload. Carvedilol has been shown to reduce blood pressure, decrease plasma levels of α1-acid glycoprotein, increase the excretion of teicoplanin, and inhibit cytosolic calcium release. Carvedilol also binds stereoselectively to the ryanodine receptor in rat hearts and inhibits on-line cytosolic calcium release. The (+) enantiomer has been shown to have greater potency than (-) at binding to the ryanodine receptor.
