1-(2-Deoxy-b-D-threo-pentofuranosyl)-5-fluorouracil (1dTfu) is an anticancer drug that belongs to the group of anti-metabolites. It is used in the treatment of colon cancer, head and neck cancer, urinary bladder cancer, and prostate cancer. 1dTfu inhibits the production of tyrosinase and other growth factors, which may be due to its ability to bind to a receptor called factor receptor on the surface of cells. This binding inhibits DNA synthesis by inhibiting the enzyme DNA polymerase. 1dTfu also has been shown to inhibit collagen synthesis via an extracellular mechanism.
