Tetrahydrolipstatina, también conocido como orlistat, es un potente inhibidor de lipasa que se utiliza principalmente en el manejo de la obesidad. Funciona inhibiendo la lipasa pancreática, una enzima responsable de la descomposición de las grasas dietéticas en ácidos grasos libres absorbibles. Esta inhibición conduce a una reducción en la absorción de grasas del tracto gastrointestinal, promoviendo la pérdida de peso. Tetrahydrolipstatina es un polvo blanco a blanco amarillento que es prácticamente insoluble en agua pero soluble en disolventes orgánicos.
