This receptor is overexpressed in many cancers and its inhibition has been shown to induce apoptosis in cancer cells. The anti-leukemic activity of flt-3 inhibitors has been demonstrated in animal models and clinical studies have shown potent inhibitory activity against leukemia cells. In addition, this drug has been shown to be effective against epithelial cancers such as breast cancer and colon cancer. Flt-3 inhibitors have also been shown to inhibit tumor growth in animal models by blocking the production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).
