This inhibition results in an accumulation of IMP and deoxyinosine monophosphate (dIMP) in tumor cells. 3-(Hydroxymethyl)cyclobutan-1-one also inhibits Mycobacterium tuberculosis, but not other bacteria such as Escherichia coli or Staphylococcus aureus.
