The binding of ACA to its receptor can lead to inhibition of tyrosine phosphorylation and consequently inhibit cell division. ACA has been shown to have antibacterial and anti-cancer properties. The mechanism of antimicrobial activity is due to inhibition of bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes that maintain the integrity of bacterial DNA. This drug also inhibits the epidermal growth factor receptor, which may be associated with cancer prevention.
