CAS:<p>Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol is a clear, colorless liquid. It has a boiling point of 176 °C and a flash point of -40 °C. Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol is soluble in water and glycol ethers. This compound is used as an industrial solvent for paints, dyes, lacquers, varnishes, and other coatings. Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol also serves as an excellent catalyst for hydrogenation reactions. The use of tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol as a catalyst for the hydrogenation of unsaturated hydrocarbons to produce saturated compounds is well known. Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol may be injected into the body to treat conditions such as epilepsy and depression. The reaction mechanism for this process has been proposed to be through the formation of pyrazinoic acid, followed by an elimination reaction with chlorogenic acids.
