BID (BH3 Interacting Domain Death Agonist) is a pro-apoptotic protein and a member of the BH3-only family, which is part of the larger Bcl-2 family of proteins. BID plays a critical role in the regulation of apoptosis (programmed cell death) by linking two major pathways that trigger cell death: the extrinsic (death receptor-mediated) and intrinsic (mitochondria-mediated) pathways.BID is typically present in an inactive form in the cytosol.
