Substance P (4-11) is a peptide that is a member of the tachykinin family. This protein is released by neurons and acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain, where it binds to neurokinin receptors. The structure of Substance P (4-11) has been determined using high-resolution nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. It contains four tryptophans, seven prolines, and nine amino acids in total. Substance P (4-11) has been shown to bind to neurokinin receptors, which are ligand-gated ion channels found on the surface of cells.
