Platinum-iridium wire is used in platinum jewelry, particularly watch cases. They have been used for spinnerets in the manufacture of synthetic fibers; in metrology and in fabrication of metal microelectrodes. It is used in the electrical stimulation of nervous tissue and in electrophysiological recordings. Pt/Ir alloy has been used in mechanical and electrochemical devices. This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand.
