N-octane is mainly used as a solvent, fuel and as one of the standard values in octane rating scale. It is also used to prevent uneven burning of fuel in internal-combustion engines. Further, it acts as an antiknock agent for high compression engine fuels, lacquer diluents, blowing agent for foam rubber.
