It acts as a surfactant in domestic and industrial products. It is an active component of fracturing fluids, drilling stabilizers and oil slick dispersants. It is also used as a solvent for paints, surface coatings, cleaning products and inks. Further, it is employed as a food additive, antimicrobial agent, defoamer, stabilizer and adhesive. In addition to this, it is used as a whiteboard cleaner, liquid soap, cosmetic, dry cleaning solution, lacquer, varnishe and latex paint.
