Descripción:6-Fluoro-3-indoxyl-beta-D-galactopyranoside is a powerful antituberculosis drug that falls under the category of rifamycins. It is specifically designed to combat tuberculosis infections by targeting active compounds and exerting bactericidal activity. This drug works by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, preventing transcription and replication, thus inhibiting bacterial growth. Its effectiveness has been demonstrated through extensive human activity studies using a patch-clamp technique on human erythrocytes. The active form of this drug undergoes various metabolic transformations, including hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase, or conjugation with glucuronic acid. Moreover, it specifically binds to markers expressed at high levels in Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains, such as ESX-1 secretion system protein, effectively inhibiting cell growth in culture.
