Descripción:The 6-Fluoro-3-indoxyl-beta-D-galactopyranoside is a powerful antituberculosis drug belonging to the class of rifamycins. It is highly effective in treating tuberculosis infections as it has strong bactericidal activity. By binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, it inhibits bacterial growth by preventing transcription and replication. This drug has been extensively studied using advanced techniques like transcription-quantitative polymerase chain and patch-clamp technique. It undergoes various metabolic transformations, including hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase, or conjugation with glucuronic acid. Additionally, it specifically targets Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains and inhibits their cell growth in culture.
