Descripción:The 6-Fluoro-3-indoxyl-beta-D-galactopyranoside is a powerful antituberculosis drug that falls under the class of rifamycins. It is known to be highly effective in treating tuberculosis infections. This active compound exhibits bactericidal activity by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, thereby hindering transcription and replication. Extensive research has been conducted on human erythrocytes using a patch-clamp technique, demonstrating its high efficacy. The drug undergoes various metabolic transformations, including hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase, or conjugation with glucuronic acid. Additionally, it specifically targets markers expressed at high levels in Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains and inhibits their growth in culture.
