Thioridazine is an antipsychotic drug that acts as a serotonin receptor antagonist. It is used to treat psychotic disorders, such as schizophrenia and mood disorders. Thioridazine blocks the binding of serotonin to its receptors, which prevents the release of dopamine and norepinephrine, thereby reducing psychotic symptoms. Thioridazine also has an inhibitory effect on serine proteases and inhibits the activation energies for reactions involving inhibitor compounds. Thioridazine solution is used in wastewater treatment because it is effective in removing organic compounds from waste water.
