m-Tolyldiethanolamine is a monomer that belongs to the class of anilines. It has been shown to bind to human mitochondrial DNA and form homologous sequences, which may be due to its ability to act as a hybridization agent. As a protein modifier, m-tolyldiethanolamine can protect proteins from oxidation in vitro and can be used as an anti-oxidant. This compound also has been used as a blood sampling device for human chorionic gonadotropin. m-Tolyldiethanolamine has also been shown to interact with nuclear DNA and inhibit the replication of bacteria resistant to antibiotics.
