1,2,3-Trichloropropane is a genotoxic compound that has minimal toxicity. It is an activated carcinogen that has been shown to produce malonic acid and is carcinogenic in animal models. Studies have shown that 1,2,3-trichloropropane causes cardiac effects in mice and may cause liver cell damage. This chemical also has chronic exposure effects and can be used as a specific antidote for zirconium oxide poisoning. The CD-1 mouse strain was used for the carcinogenesis studies.
