Diethyl 1-methylbutylmalonate is a catalyst that catalyzes the addition of one or more electron(s) to an organic substrate. It is sensitive to moisture, air and light. This compound has been used as a solid catalyst in polymerization reactions. Diethyl 1-methylbutylmalonate is also used as an intermediate for the synthesis of titanium dioxide, which can be used in paints and plastics. Diethyl 1-methylbutylmalonate is soluble in solvents such as benzene, ether, acetone and chloroform. The molecular weight of diethyl 1-methylbutylmalonate is 179.3 g/mol.
