Sodium thiosalicylate is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that inhibits the production of prostaglandins, thereby reducing inflammation. It is used to treat inflammatory diseases and may be useful in treating infectious diseases, such as sepsis and malaria. In addition, it has been shown to inhibit the production of leukotrienes and other inflammatory mediators, which are involved in asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, and other systemic diseases. The mechanism of action for sodium thiosalicylate is not well understood; however, it may be due to its ability to block cellular receptors for leukotriene C4 (LTC4) or LTC5.
