This agent has also been shown to react with acid and form hydrogen gas and nitric oxide, which are reactive molecules that can react with DNA and proteins. N,N-Dimethyl-4-nitrosoaniline is not carcinogenic to humans but has been shown to be carcinogenic in animal models.
