It is also able to react with bacterial enzymes, such as jodrellin and L-arabinose isomerase, through a number of chemical reactions. Clerodin can be used as a potential drug for treating bacterial infections because it inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids in bacteria, which are necessary for their survival. Clerodin also interacts with hydrogen bonds, which may account for its biological activity.
