The hydroxyl group on 4-pregnene-3,11,20-trione allows it to bind to the mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) and have inhibitory properties. 4-Pregnene-3,11,20-trione has been shown to prevent tumor growth in vitro and in vivo. It is also known to have physiological effects in lung cells such as alveolar type II cells and cancer tissue. This molecule can be used as a model system for studying the effects of steroids on cancer cells and for investigating the relationship between biochemical activity and cell proliferation.
