α-Cortol is a chemical that is used as an energy substrate in the metabolism of amino acids. It is hydrolyzed to release acetate, which can be used for energy production by cells. α-Cortol has been shown to be effective in the treatment of alopecia areata, which is an autoimmune disorder that causes hair loss. This drug also has properties that may be beneficial for weight loss and lowering cholesterol levels. Studies have shown that α-Cortol can increase body mass index (BMI) and fatty acid levels in urine samples from women, as well as increasing enzyme activities in congestive heart patients. α-Cortol also increases acetate extract and enzyme hydrolysis in biological samples like urine or blood.
