Isobutyl Propionate is a fatty acid ester that is the isobutyl ester of propionic acid. It has been used as an analog for ethyl acetate in kinetic studies. Isobutyl Propionate is used in the synthesis of other compounds and can be synthesized by three different methods. The first method includes heating propionic acid with a glycol ether, followed by separation of the product from water using deionized water. The second method involves heating propionic acid with an alkali metal hydroxide, followed by addition of an ester compound to produce the desired product. The third method involves heating propionic acid with an alcohol and then adding sulfuric acid to produce the desired product. Isobutyl Propionate can also be produced through hydrolysis of methyl propionate or reacting acetic anhydride with butyric acid. Isobutyl Propionate reacts with hydrogen fluoride to form a carboxy
