Hexadecamethyl heptasiloxane has been shown to be effective against fungi, including Candida albicans and Trichophyton mentagrophytes, and can be used for the treatment of fungal infections. Hexadecamethyl heptasiloxane has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. This effect may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis by reversibly binding to the enzyme cyclooxygenase.
