Descripción:(-)-Methylephedrine is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of amphetamines. It can be isolated from ephedrine, which is found in the plant Ephedra sinica. (-)-Methylephedrine has been used as an analytical reagent in chromatographic analysis and as a reference standard for the detection sensitivity of human pharmacokinetics. Monoclonal antibodies have been successfully generated against (-)-methylephedrine for control analysis and for use in immunoassays. (-)-Methylephedrine has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex by inhibiting protein synthesis. The effects of this drug on bacterial growth may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes.
