Bromodiiodomethane is a halogenated organic compound that is used in wastewater treatment. It can be used to reduce the toxicity of wastewater by oxidizing organic contaminants. Bromodiiodomethane is also used as an introducing agent for iodoacetic acid and persulfate, which are used in the treatment of wastewater. Bromodiiodomethane is toxic to mammalian cells, but not to bacterial cells. It has been shown to induce cell death by inhibiting protein synthesis and inducing apoptosis.
