Hop-17(21)-en-3β-ol is a dietary supplement that has been shown to have hepatoprotective effects. It also inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Hop-17(21)-en-3β-ol has been found to inhibit the activity of fatty acid synthase in cancer cells and has been shown to lower levels of kynurenine, an intermediate product in the kynurenine pathway. This compound has shown significant inhibitory activities against TNF-α in vitro. Hop-17(21)-en-3β-ol may be useful for the treatment of various inflammatory diseases because it inhibits the production of proinflammatory cytokines.
