3-Hydroxybenzene-1,2-dicarboxylic acid is a synthetic molecule that binds to the receptor VEGF. It is a potent inhibitor of angiogenesis and tumor growth in vivo. 3-Hydroxybenzene-1,2-dicarboxylic acid is also resistant to degradation by glycosidases, which are enzymes that break down carbohydrates. The high hydrophobicity of this compound helps it penetrate the tumor cells and inhibit their growth. 3-Hydroxybenzene-1,2-dicarboxylic acid has been shown to reduce the number of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) cells in mice.
