Descripción:2-Hydroxy-3-methyl-butanedioic acid is a natural compound that belongs to the group of regulatory molecules. It is a metabolite of 2,3-dihydroxypropanoic acid and it is biosynthesized in bacteria by dehydrogenase enzymes. It has been shown to have allosteric binding on the Nudix hydrolase domain and inhibit the activity of this enzyme. The size exclusion chromatography technique was used to determine that 2-hydroxy-3-methyl-butanedioic acid inhibits the growth of Neisseria meningitidis bacteria. This compound has also been found to be useful in diagnostic tests for detecting Neisseria meningitidis infections.
