This reaction mechanism may be due to the presence of two phenyl groups, which are electron donating and electron withdrawing groups. The isomers of 2-iodonaphthalene are cis and trans, which differ in their reactivity due to steric hindrance. The cis isomer reacts more easily than the trans isomer because it has less steric hindrance. The reaction temperature also affects the reactivity of 2-iodonaphthalene. Higher temperatures increase the rate of the reaction, but at higher temperatures there is an increased risk of side reactions forming.
