• Descripción: Tert-butyl perbenzoate is a benzoate that has been studied for its redox potential. It is used in the synthesis of sodium carbonate and is also used as a reagent for kinetic studies. Tert-butyl perbenzoate has shown to be toxic in some studies, with LD50 values of 2.5-3 g/kg when administered orally to rats. This chemical can also react with water vapor, leading to formation of anhydrous sodium carbonate and methyl ethyl benzoate. The mechanism of this reaction is not well understood but appears to involve a zirconium oxide intermediate. Tert-butyl perbenzoate is also used as a model system in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) studies.
