Myristanilide is a fatty acid that has been used as a diagnostic agent in electron microscopy. It is an unsymmetrical molecule with a trifluoromethyl group, which has been shown to be an effective marker for electron microscopy. Myristanilide is also used as a reagent in the determination of the presence of carboxylic acids and esters. It reacts reversibly with the solution when heated, forming a carbonyl group. This functional group can be used to determine the presence of functional groups such as amino or hydroxyl groups.
