Descripción:p-Tolyl isothiocyanate belongs to a class of compounds called isothiocyanates. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The compound inhibits the synthesis of bacterial proteins by binding to the amino groups on their ribosomes, which prevents the attachment of tRNA molecules and blocks protein synthesis. p-Tolyl isothiocyanate can be synthesized in two steps starting from 2-chlorobenzaldehyde and 3-methylthiopropionaldehyde. This molecule has also been shown to have antiadhesive effects against Streptococcus mutans, which are bacteria that cause tooth decay.
