Pentadecane is a model system for examining the antibacterial efficacy of small molecules. The discovery group has identified pentadecane as an inhibitor of Mcl-1 protein, which is involved in the regulation of apoptosis and immune response. Pentadecane has been shown to have medicinal properties, but it also inhibits the growth of oral pathogens. This molecule might be useful for treating infectious diseases caused by oral pathogens. Pentadecane is a potential biofuel that can be used to power cars and other vehicles. It has been found to be effective in preventing oral hypoglycemia and in inhibiting k562 cells from proliferating. The reaction mechanism for this molecule is not yet known, but it may involve anion radical scavenging or hydroxyl radical scavenging.
