The addition of this compound to dimethyl fumarate, which has been shown to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in vitro, may be useful for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. 1-Iodooctadecane can also be used as a radionuclide because it emits gamma rays when irradiated with alpha particles. This compound also has fatty acid chains that contain nitrogen atoms and carboxylic acids, as well as halides on its carbon chain.
