Pentatriacontane inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids by inhibiting the activity of the enzyme fatty acid synthase. This inhibition leads to cell death by producing toxic levels of malonyl-CoA and other acyl-CoA intermediates. Pentatriacontane has also been shown to be an effective inhibitor of Candida albicans in vitro.
