Descripción:Propiophenone is a propionic acid derivative that can be synthesized from acetone and formaldehyde. The reaction is selective for the 4-position of the phenyl ring, and the product is largely in the 2-isopropylacetophenone (2-IPAP) form. This compound is used to manufacture industrial chemicals such as propionitrile, which are used to make other chemicals such as acrylic acid. It can also be used to produce synthetic rubber and polymers.
