2-Methyl-1-phenyl-2-butanol is a carbonyl compound that can be prepared by the reaction of magnesium with an aryl ketone. It is used as a nucleophile in organic synthesis, such as Grignard reagents and alcohols. 2-Methyl-1-phenyl-2-butanol has been shown to react with electrophilic chlorides and methyl ketones to form carbonyl compounds. The chemical reactions that occur when 2-methyl-1-phenyl-2 butanol reacts with these substrates are mechanistic and stereochemical in nature.
