Dichloro(methyl)(2-phenylethyl)silane is a high molecular weight, hydrophobic liquid that is used in the production of coatings, pesticides, and gels. It has a viscosity of 2.1 cP at 25°C. This product can be manufactured using reactions that take between 10 minutes to 15 hours. A major use for this product is as a reducer for other chlorinated silanes and organosilanes. Dichloro(methyl)(2-phenylethyl)silane can also be used to manufacture gel permeation chromatography columns.
