The asymmetric synthesis of ethyl DL-Mandelate has been achieved by using x-ray diffraction data, and the reaction was conducted with sodium carbonate, a dinucleotide phosphate, and acetic acid. Intramolecular hydrogen bonding was observed in this product. Acetate extraction was used to separate the desired product from the reaction mixture. Chemical species containing a carbonyl group were detected in this product. The molecular formula for this compound is C8H14O4.
