5-Methyl-4-phenyl-1H-imidazole is an epoxy that is used as a medicine. It is a hardener in the form of ammonium salt and has vasodilating properties. It is used to treat cerebral and vascular diseases, such as hypertension and atherosclerosis. 5-Methyl-4-phenyl-1H-imidazole is toxic for the liver and kidneys when administered orally. This compound also has a high affinity for absorbing certain gases, such as dichlorobenzaldehyde, which may be due to its ability to bind with oxygen molecules.
