Dipiperidinomethane is a reactive, isomeric mixture of two epoxides that reversibly react with amines to form covalent adducts. This compound inhibits metalloproteases and has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the aspartyl protease cathepsin K. The reaction mechanism has been studied using metal surfaces coated with dipiperidinomethane. These coatings have been shown to have optical properties that can be tuned by the addition of small amounts of metal ions.
