Methyl triacontanoate and linoleyl alcohol are substrates for the reaction with methyl behenate. The surface methodology technique is used to measure the particle size of methyl behenate. Methyl Behenate has been shown to inhibit acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine, which leads to inflammatory bowel disease.
