It can be used as an index reagent for the detection of dehydrocholic acid in urine and the sodium salt of rac-(1R,4R)-7,7-dimethylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-1-carboxylic acid is used as a medicament for the treatment of gastric ulcers.
