7,9-Dimethylbenz[C]acridine is a synthetic chemical that is used in the production of dyes and other organic compounds. It has been shown to have carcinogenic properties. This chemical binds to DNA by forming covalent bonds with methyl groups on the bases. 7,9-Dimethylbenz[C]acridine also has optical properties as it can be used as a dichroic dye for microscopy and chromatographic techniques.
